cloud migration support

“Supporting teams in migrating workloads to the cloud”

overview

“Migrating applications to cloud involves much more than a technical migration”

With the cloud strategy as a guide, applications can be efficiently migrated to the cloud. Even without a cloud strategy, this will happen, only less structured.

The cloud strategy lays out the preferred migration strategy per application. Usually, according to the 6R-format: Rehost, Re-platform, Re-architect, Repurchase, Retain and Retire. Prior to migrating the application, the preferred migration strategy must be validated using a detailed gate analysis by assessing, among other things, technical feasibility, costs (business case), risks, privacy and security impact. The gate analysis may result in choosing a different application migration strategy, or even a different landing zone. The CCoE helps the teams with the gate analysis. The cloud strategy describes which gates are used by your organisation.

Once the definitive migration strategy has been determined, the actual migration must be planned and executed. Implementation of the cloud strategy is the responsibility of IT Management, in which it is supported by the CCoE. A migration plan is drawn up to achieve the intended goals of the cloud strategy. For individual teams, it is often difficult to determine the migration plans because an overview of the 'functional chain' is missing, and specific cloud knowledge can be lacking. The CCoE can facilitate by providing portfolio level oversight and coordination.

The CCoE can also provide help to the teams to deliver the solution architecture. Especially at the beginning of the cloud strategy execution, teams may not have all the required knowledge or experience with cloud. Support to overcome technical impediments with regards to cloud during migration, is an important activity of the CCoE. In the end the objective for the CCoE is to support the teams to successfully migrate applications to cloud.
